A Different View

My mothers voice is my native tongue

And bells once broke cannot be rung

I’m told I’m forged of god and love

Though I never heard back from above
From games to names to tinder fell

Of angels that could never tell

Though sad and simple it remains

A fallen son in hope of claims
Of missed and missing faith in thee

Not ever meant to turn the key

That sowed a seed of fear in me

That love weren’t meant for you and thee
A bell twice broke again is rung

And truer now it sings its song

Not fleeing from the pain that mends

The cracks that forged a better man
Love is all I have for you

The pain that passed between is through

I’ll love you till your dying day

And to your god I’ll often pray
Cause love can bridge a different view

And words once spoke may still be true

That doesn’t mean a thing to me

Cause in your light I’ll always be

Wondering the Why

I may not believe in god

I believe that I am blessed

The universe cannot listen

Though I pray nonetheless

I hue not to a dogma

I live a life of trying

Ever to improve my station

In the eye of no almighty

I feel the slings and arrows

From those that vow no pride

The ever present judgments

From those who speak divine

I am forever seeking

Wondering the why

Searching through a forest

Lost in all that rise

I have come to find comfort

In the wisdom of always asking

Never knowing is a needle’s eye

That curiosity finds and pierces

Whatever is your heaven

We all should consider

The vanity of knowing

What your god is bound to render

Heaven is a place on earth

And all of us are tenants

Gratitude so often falters

All of us owe penance

The flag you fly for your own god

It’s no brighter, only bigger

Wielded with a heavy stick

Perfecting damaged armor

The thing I fear is gross assurance

Belief lacking any pause

The kind that fits in ones own vision

Defending all that was

Doubt is not the enemy

It is beliefs most staunch defender

Rising every time to meet her

And never torn asunder

I can’t conceive a god I’d fathom

Nor one who’d care to wonder

If I believed in he or she

Then test me wielding thunder

I’d rather go on believing in me

And you and us and others

I’d rather tend to heaven right here

With all my sisters and brothers

Immersed

via Daily Prompt: Immerse

We immerse ourselves in what we love

and find a love there waiting.

A love of all we see and learn while falling

Into a light that’s magnetic and never abating.

We fall forever and gather momentum

never once thinking of halting or breaking

when beckoning the courageous and curious and brave

Immersion too often convinces through magic

A belief that deeper and deeper, fathoms upon fathoms

can somehow broaden your knowledge

can give a light to wisdom that travels

at speeds your fathoms can’t fathom.

Until you believe your deeper knowledge

the knowledge that gives you meaning

is somehow the secret to all that is wanted

by all those who don’t study your journey.

Without warning and only in hindsight

do we recognize all that has brought us

to proselytize, believing our wisdom is better than yours

and seeking others who follow.

The same footsteps and thinking

experiences not thinking or asking or seeking or wishing

to learn of an others earned wisdom.

For nothing not swimming in which I had sought

can have knowledge that equals what my search had wroguht

Balance is not what the holy demands

but wisdom arrived at by only my path

and only by those who are near me.

Our tribe has found the one lonely truth

and your path is filled with deniers.

Not wanting salvation for simply committing

to that which is so bloody, so simple

Immersion in me is fealty to thee

and the only true way from damnation

Thoughts, Vibes and Prayers

I had an epiphany this past year. Since then I’ve prayed for anyone who has asked me to. To anyone who asked for my prayers before my epiphany, I’m sorry.

I’ve come to the passionate belief that there is only this. This belief, for me, keeps me honest, accountable and caring. It means all my love, care, rewards, punishment, joys, pains and everything else you can imagine must fit inside the life I’m living now. It’s a deep, core belief of mine. One that I was inconsiderately, rudely and even aggressively defensive about since about the age of 13.

It’s hard to explain, but to the non-doctrinal among us expressions of belief often feel like aggressive acts. It feels like people are judging us, as they surely are, as I am them more often than I care to admit, and we get into a stance where we feel like we have to defend our simple belief that all of this is more than enough. More than enough reason for love and compassion and acts of kindness. My beliefs as well as my upbringing are the impetus for my good deeds and good works. My shortcomings, failings and acts of insensitivity are human. They are not evidence of a bad person. These unkind moments are evidence of an imperfect person or more succinctly they are evidence of a person. My acknowledgment of them, my apologies for them and my attempts to make up for them and correct them are grace. I’m about halfway through this journey if it goes to plan and I have a lot to be proud of, a lot to continue to work on and a lot to apologize for.

On that note I’d like to offer my apologies to anyone who was having a moment of stress, encountering tragedy or simply looking for my love and support and asked me to ‘send your love and prayers.’ I took this request as an attack on my beliefs, if you can imagine something so self-centered, egotistical and thoughtless. I promise you, my responses, my sincere expressions of support tinged with refusal of ‘you’re in my thoughts’ or ‘I’m sending you good vibes’ were sincerely intended to be supportive. They were. But I can’t lie, there was a piece of that love and support that I was withholding. For that I’m truly and deeply sorry.

It was a failing of mine to think these requests, this reaching out for support, was anything other than that. I can pray. In fact whenever I was asked to pray I did. In my way and with a sincere heart.

So going forward if you ask me to keep you in my thoughts, I will. If you ask me to send good vibes, that is what I will do. And if you ask me to pray for you, you’ll be in my prayers.
